Cocktail of the Month; Espresso Martini

One small warning upfront: Not only are Espresso Martini’s delicious, they are also very efficient in keeping you awake. This is not a cocktail for those that want to sleep anytime soon!

Another small warning: this recipe is specifically made for our Dutch Brew Coffee liqueur, if you replace it by a different brand then replace half of the coffee liqueur by vodka. Reason for this is the much lower sweetness of Dutch Brew Coffee Liqueur compared to the larger brands.

Finally, you can make an espresso martini with any kind of coffeebeans , as long as they make a good espresso. We thought it would be a good idea to make ours a single origin Espresso Martini, using the same Inga Aponte coffeebeans for the espresso as were used to make the coffee liqueur.

Mixed with tonic the tea flavours from the earl grey gin become even more apparent, to compensate we garnish our perfect serve wit grapefruit that lifts the citrus and juniper berries to boost the gin base.

Prepare your espresso and put plenty of icecubes into a cocktail shaker. When the espresso is done pour it over the icecubes, do this immediately and don’t wait for it to cool down as it will oxidize quicker when hot. Add the Liqueur into the shaker and shake for 15-20 second, this will chill the cocktail and create a nice foamy layer. Poor through a strainer into a martini glas, and add the traditional triplet of coffeebeans as garnish. Cheers!
