Cocktail of the Month; Basil Smash
The Basil Smash is refreshing and vibrant green cocktail perfectly suited for a beautifully sunny afternoon, for example on a waterfront jetty or casually at home on the (roof) terrace. Credits for the Basil Smash go to Jörg Meyer who invented the cocktail in 2007 which lead to the 2008 Best New Cocktailbar Award in the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards with Basil Smash being one of the most prominent cocktails served at Le Lion in Paris. Surely, this months cocktail sugestion is worth a try!
Of course we based our version of the Bail Smash on our RoyalTea Earl Grey Gin, which was tried, tested, and approved in quick succesion. The RoyalTea Gin hands a little boost of freshness to the cocktail, delicious!
When making the Basil Smash it is a good idea to be generous with the amount of basil, this is what not only gives the basil smash its vibrant green colour but a surprisingly refreshing taste as well. If you don’t like basil this is probably not the cocktail for you, if you do like basil the Basil Smash will surprise you!

Grab a generous amount of basil, and add this with the sugar to a cocktailshaker. Then muddle intensely (the sugar helps to open up the basil). When most of the basil is squashed add juice of the lemon, RoyalTea Gin, and Icecubes. Close your cocktail shaker and shake for 10-15 seconds to chill the cocktail, then pour through a strainer in a nice glass. Cheers!
